Knowing these terms helps you describe what you want so that there will be very little room left for making mistakes in your request. Logo concept: This is the description, or proposal, that you’re going to give the logo designer on what you would like your logo design to look like. You can then choose from those concepts to see which fits your preference best.
Combination logo: A combination logo is a logo that has both text and a picture, or icon. The text is usually incorporated into the image itself in some way that they fit together.
Duotone: This is when two colors of ink are used in the creation of the logo. Yes, many logos can have more than one color, but this is what you will call it when you want to use two colors.
Font: This describes the style of the text. You may wish to use any of a number of fonts to make your text look the way you want it to look. There are hundreds of fonts you can use, so you can let your imagination take charge.
Script: This is a typeface that you will see that mimics handwriting styles, such as cursive writing. However, it can even mimic the handwriting of a child. It doesn’t necessarily have to be cursive writing, which is what many interpret script to be.
Text only: You’ll use this term when you request that only requires some sort of typeface. This is common in businesses that have no logo to focus on. You may be able to think of a business that uses just text as their logo. Take Coca-Cola, for example, and their very distinctive font that they use. Aside from the fact that their text only logo is their name, it is very easy to distinguish.
So let’s say you are presented with logo concepts and you don’t like them all or you would like to see something different. This does happen, so don’t feel as if you’re being picky. If you’re going to put your business name and logo out there, you want it to be right. That means you may use the following terms:
Logo redraw: This is when you simply need a new concept completely. The logo designer will then go back to the drawing board and create new concepts based on your requests.
Logo revision: If you don’t need the concept to be redrawn, then you can go for a logo revision. Through revising, the logo designer is simply adjusting the design to a concept that you have chosen. This is very common, which is why most logo designers allow for at least one logo revision.
